Choir hits a high note at Bunbury Eisteddfod Gala Concert

Grace Christian School’s Year 5/6 Choir took centrestage at the prestigious Bunbury Eisteddfod Gala Concert in June.

The choir, consisting of 42 talented students, wowed the audience with their exceptional performance, earning the top spot in the Primary Choir section of the annual competition.

Grace Christian School’s Head of Music Mrs Anita Newhouse said it had been an outstanding year for music students, with more impressive performances scheduled for Term 4.

“We have had a wonderful year of music making so far and our highlight would be performing at the Bunbury Eisteddfod Gala Concert,” Mrs Newhouse said.

“We were invited to perform at the Gala Concert after winning our Primary Choir section.”

Mrs Newhouse said this outstanding accomplishment is a testament to the choir’s dedication and hard work.

Under the guidance of Mrs Newhouse and Choir Director Mrs Kathryn Rennie, the students have been practicing diligently, coming together once a week for 45 minutes to perfect their harmonies and hone their vocal skills.

“We are fortunate to have this rehearsal as part of the school day,” Mrs Newhouse said.

“Joining the choir is an opportunity open to all students in Year 4. From Year 5-12, choir membership is voluntary, with the only requirements being a commitment to attend rehearsals and a passion for singing and music making.

“Our choral program has grown significantly, now boasting four choirs from Year 4-12, as well as a dedicated staff singing group.”

One of the most impressive moments that inspired Mrs Newhouse and her team was the choir’s initial performance at the Eisteddfod.

“Their technique and the sound was impressive, and they demonstrated great discipline and focus,” Mrs Newhouse said.

“The success of the Year 5/6 Choir wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the school’s dedicated staff and parents.

“We are very grateful to the staff who support our choral program, attending events and rehearsals, and encouraging our students to participate.

“We are also grateful for our parents and wider school community who support our performances.

“A special mention to Mrs Debbie Stone and Mr Andy Loh, who assist with choir each week in addition to their roles elsewhere in the school.”

Mrs Newhouse said the choir is gearing up for their next spotlight moment – the Grace Music Gala on Thursday, 26 October 2023.

“This event promises to be a celebration of the entire music program at Grace, showcasing the musical excellence that the school has become known for,” Mrs Newhouse said.

“We greatly appreciate the support and encouragement of our school leadership who have helped to pave the way for our choral program to grow and flourish.”
