Grace celebrates Year 10 achievements and pathways success

Grace Christian School’s Year 10 students are on an exciting journey towards their future, as they explore various pathways to success in the Senior Secondary Program.

Grace’s Head of Secondary Mr Andrew Woods said staff recently conducted Year 10 interviews to provide students and their families with a clear picture of the diverse pathways that Grace offers.

Mr Woods said it had been incredible to witness the growth in Grace’s retention of Year 10 students transitioning to Year 11 in recent years.

“Our goal with the Grade 10 interviews was to discuss career pathways with students and their families and provide valuable advice on the best ways to achieve their goals,” Mr Woods said.

“The recognition of Grace Christian School as a genuine Christian learning environment, that produces top academic and vocational outcomes, has resulted in over 85% retention of our Year 10 students to Year 11 for 2024.

“This will be our largest Year 11 cohort and combination Year 11/12 group in Senior School and is testament to the excellent work carried out by our teaching staff.

“Thanks to our community for partnering with us to see Christian education continue to go from strength to strength in the South West.”

As the Head of Secondary, Mr Woods focuses on curriculum and ensuring that students have the best opportunities for success in their areas of interest.

Mr Woods praised Grace’s VET Coordinator Mr Keith Knauf, who provides career counselling and advice to students, maintains connections with VET providers and employers, and plays a vital role in students’ career development.

They shared some insights from Year 10 students, who mentioned their favourite aspects of the 2023 journey so far, which included work experience, sports carnivals, interschool competitions, Country Week, engaging electives, and the impactful Hope Tour, which saw over 60 students putting their faith in Christ.

Mr Woods said the week-long work experience allowed students to explore careers of interest and gain valuable insights into their future training and career paths.

Another highlight was the ASX “Sharemarket Game,” which provided students with a chance to try their hand at turning a profit on the share market using virtual funding.

“Engagement in Senior School electives such as Certificate III in Visual Art, Certificate II in Outdoor Rec, and preparation for Certificate III Music, allows our students to explore their interests and also earns credits towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education,” Mr Woods said.

“Looking ahead, the Year 10 students have exciting highlights on their calendar, including success in vocational course selection, Year 11 Prefect selections for 2024, an Outdoor Recreation Camp, and a Visual Art Camp.”
